    1.What is Safenetwork?

    Safenetwork is a website that is funded by the California Department of Public Health’s Domestic Violence Program.  The goal of the site is to provide useful information to the public, DV service providers and victims

    2. What information can I find on this website?

    Information is available on domestic violence, how to get help, safety planning, legal and financial resources.

    3. What is domestic abuse, intimate partner abuse?

    The California Health and Safety code defines domestic violence as infliction or threat of physical harm against past or present adult or adolescent intimate partners, and shall include physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and is part of a pattern of assaultive, coercive, and controlling behaviors directed at achieving compliance from or control over, that person.

    4. What are the signs of Domestic Violence?

    • Your partner has a history of discipline problems.
    • Blames you for his/her anger.
    • Has a serious drug or alcohol problems.
    • Has a history of violent behavior.
    • Threatens others regularly.
    • Insults you or calls you names.
    • Has trouble controlling feeling like anger.
    • Tells you what to wear, what to do or how to act.
    • Threatens or intimidates you in order to get their way.
    • Prevents you from spending time with friends or family.

    5. I have a friend who is being abused, how can I help?

    You or your friend may contact the national hot line at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) 1-800-787-3224 (TTY) to find a DV agency in the local area.  Things that can be done to help the friend feel safe are;

    Knowing an adult that can be trusted?
    Plan in advance to have a safe place to go.
    Keep money and a cell phone or calling card with you at all times.
    Establish code word or sign so that family, friends, teachers and co-workers know when to call for help.

     

    6. Can I be sure that my information will not be given out to my abuser?
    This site is on a secure server and privacy information is not collected on this site.  It is highly recommended that when accessing this site or any shelter location by internet a computer other than your own is used.

     

    7. How do I kind a shelter that is local to me?
    Click the link for Resources for Services to victim on the homepage.  Then click the link to resources search, look for the county where you are located and locate a shelter in that county.  Click the view button and call the number on the screen.  If you are not located in the state of California then call the National Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)

     

    8. Can I find information about volunteering to work at a shelter?
    Volunteering to work at a local shelter can be done by contacting the organization you wish to work.  Click the link for Resources for Services to victim on the homepage.  Then click the link to resources search, look for the county where you are located and locate a shelter in that county.  Click the view button and call the number on the screen.
